Wood and stone are very different mediums.
Wood is very free forming. I must allow the piece to show me what it wants to be & have the courage to go along with it, even if I'm not sure how to execute the challenge. Working with wood is a collaborative effort with nature. I never measure or have a definite idea of the final piece.
Stone on the other hand is very mathematical, demanding & slow. It requires a lot of persistence & vision. It's where I strive for perfection & realism.
I find a unique balance in working with both mediums. I believe working in nature's own material creates a tranquil, peaceful work of art. |
