It’s hard to imagine that Jay McDougall's work is born from roaring chainsaws and massive, unwieldy hardwood logs. One look at McDougall's designs confirms the need for much more intimate terms. His sensuous hand-sculpted wooden vessels call forth rolling curves that flow as easily as the undulating hills around Fergus Falls, Minnesota, where he lives and works, collecting logs and transforming them into cherished collectables. The finished pieces conjure swaying waves of wheat with colors hinting at the soft light of a breaking sunrise, the dark browns of summertime shadows, and the glowing hues of an impending sunset. |
