May 2006 Magazine Cover

SAUSALITO, California, May 2, 2006 — Sunshine Artist, America's premier show and festival magazine, has awarded the Sausalito Art Festival's poster "Overall Best" for the year 2005, placing it on it's May cover just as America's #1 Outdoor Fine Art Festival is seeking artwork for it's 2006 Commemorative Poster.

Digital photographer Ken Milburn, of Mill Valley, California, created last year's image, entitled "Artboats", using thirty-five different photographs depicting his own unique version of the Sausalito waterfront.  The image won-out over dozens of other entries which were judged in seven categories.  The panel of judges in the magazine's annual nationwide contest described the poster as visually very strong yet simple, and a good use of new technology.

The criteria for consideration for the 2006 Sausalito Art Festival Commemorative Poster is simple: the image must reflect Sausalito or the Festival in some way, however subtle.  It can be any size, in any medium, and should be of a caliber worthy of framing as well as something with the potential to win awards.  Previous posters have featured images of sailboats, elephants, festival tents, and views of the Sausalito hills.

The Sausalito Art Festival takes place every Labor Day weekend and is world renowned for presenting the best in contemporary fine art in a beautiful setting along San Francisco Bay.  More than 1,100 artists from throughout the United States and around the world compete for the opportunity to occupy one of the 270 available booths.  A-list entertainment, gourmet food, and wines from Napa and Sonoma, are enjoyed by tens of thousands of art-buying attendees each year.  The Festival contributes more than $200,000 annually to local community agencies and non-profit organizations, is supported by more than 1,000 volunteers, and produced by the non-profit Sausalito Art Festival Foundation.
