SAUSALITO ART FESTIVAL RECEPTION HONORING 2007 GRANTS & SCHOLARSHIP RECEPIENTS
The highly-acclaimed Sausalito Art Festival, America's #1 Outdoor Fine Art Festival, has announced the 2007 Leonard Kaprielian Grants, an annual Festival program that provides financial support to Sausalito non-profit organizations.
The first group of grants will be presented at a reception on August 16, 2007, at 6:00pm, at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Bay Model Visitor Center. Grantees include Christ Episcopal Church, Open Door Ministries, Richardson’s Bay Model Association, Rotary Club of Sausalito, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Sausalito Parks & Recreation, Sausalito Presbyterian Church, Sausalito Rotary Housing Board and Sausalito VIPS.
Open to the Public, the event coincides with the launch of "The Art of Travel" an exhibit of Sausalito Artists’ impressions of places and cultures that have inspired them across the globe. It will run through September 9, including Festival Weekend, September 1-3. Participating artists include Ingrid Butler, Michael Childs, Dana Draper, Joanne Fox, Dennis Kohn, Karen Strange, Kay Carlson, Gabrielle Moore-Gordon, Anne Davis and many more.
The Foundation will also present $10,000 in Scholarships to Bay Area College Students majoring in the Arts.
"The Art Festival is the single greatest contributor to nonprofits in Sausalito," explained SAF Foundation Board President, Mike Stone. "It's the most successful art festival in the world and all of the proceeds go back to the community, much of it through the Leonard Kaprielian Grants."
Last year the Festival made contributions ranging from $1,000 to $35,000 to federally recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organizations. Over the past seven years close to $300,000 has been committed to Community Grant Awards. $150,000 has been earned by the City of Sausalito and over $70,000 has been awarded to SAF Artists by Festival Judges.
Funds for local non-profits are also raised on-site through food booth sales, with many organizations relying on their Festival participation for a major part of their annual income. Additionally, the Rotary Club of Sausalito received significant funding toward two Senior Housing developments from operating the parking lots.
The Sausalito Art Festival is held each year over the Labor Day weekend at Marinship Park and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Bay Model Visitor Center along the sparkling waterfront in Sausalito. The open-air event features magnificent sculpture and fine art, deliciously distinctive food and beverages, and world-renowned entertainment on two stages. More than 1,000 artists from around the world vie for the 270 juried positions available.
The 2007 Festival dates are September 1, 2, and 3. Tickets for the Festival are $20 for General Admission; $10 for Seniors 62+; and $5 for Juniors 6–12; Children under 6 are admitted free.
